Pass Switching

There are several missions, where 2 satellites are flying in a "Tandem" configuration in the same orbit, separated by short distances only; this is the case with Grace-A and Grace-B, and with Topex/Poseidon and Jason-1. To be able to track both satellites at the same pass, we have implemented very fast pass switching algorithms and methods in the real time tracking software. These allow to switch from one tandem satellite to the other, and to get returns again within 10 seconds.

The Figure shows successful tracking of Topex/Poseidon and Jason-1, with frequent pass switching, and additional Grace-A / Grace B passes (both with 20° maximum elevation) in between. All four passes were tracked within about 15 minutes.
